Calculate your carbon footprint
It only takes 5 minutes to find out where you are making the most impact in terms of carbon emissions in your daily life. Once you have this information, you can select an easy shift from the tips below. Go to this link for an easy calculation.
Gas is not getting any cheaper…so here are some easy ways to use less gasoline
- Properly inflate your tires – this will improve your gas mileage and reduce your emissions
- Buy a fuel-efficient car that uses less gasoline
- Carpool
- Ride a bike
- Take a walk in the sunshine instead of driving
Your plastic PET water bottle has a future
When you use bottled water, be sure to recycle your PET bottles
- They can be made into clothes or even sails! Don’t believe us? Check out the sails on our ‘2041′ sailboat here!
Switch to a green energy provider
If your existing energy provider doesn’t provide this – ask why not.
Save money and start making a few simple changes at home
Be the first one in your neighborhood to “go green” at home. You will see an instantaneous reduction in your energy bill, while also reducing your carbon footprint.
- Turn off your TV – simply turning off your electronics when they are not in use will make a huge difference in the amount of energy you consume
- Change your light bulbs – switch to florescent bulbs or LED lights when your incandescent bulbs burn out
- Choose energy-efficient appliances (refrigerators, computers, TVs, etc)
- Adjust your thermostat - lower by 2 degrees in the winter and higher by 2 degrees in the summer
- Use less hot water – set your washing machine to clean clothes in cold water
- Switch to reusable shopping bags – producing plastic bags uses a lot of natural resources and most just end up in landfills or spilling out of your cabinets making a huge mess
- Recycle more at home
Be a leader in your community
Once you have found at least one way to reduce your impact and save money – spread the word!
- Send an email to all of your friends & family and share your experience (send them a link to this webpage for example)
- Write an Op-ed piece in your local newspaper
- Have your children share their experience with their teacher and fellow classmates
